Art work across school in September 2023
We are only in our 4th week of term and already there has been some wonderful art work taking place across the school. This term our theme is drawing.
Our thanks go to Miss Daniel for her efforts in leading Art and Design & Technology across the school and in raising the profile and standard of our output!
Have a look below to see what our wonderful children have been producing.
Nursery's Marvellous Marks
L1 - mark making with crayons.
The children have been busy mark making with wax crayons and exploring textures in the classroom environment by taking wax rubbings and collecting patterns.
L2 - mark making with felt-tips
In this lesson, Nursery investigated using felt-tips as a tool for mark making and developing their fine motor skills as they created patterns.
Year 2 - Tell a story
L3 - My toy story
Y2 pupils drew a favourite soft toy from observation, adding texture by applying mark-making skills.
Year 3 - Growing Artists
L1 - Seeing like an artist
Y3 used simple shapes to draw objects, developing observation skills to draw natural and manmade objects.
Y3 pupils have learned how to shade (Four rules of shading), understanding how it is used to create light and dark tones in drawings.
L2 - Drawing Decisions
Y5 explored and created art using different processes and considering artist decisions; using sketchbooks to explore drawing through line, tone, shape and textures; experimenting with materials and tools.
Year 6 - Make my voice heard
L2 - Symbolic imagery
Using the Maya belief that everyone has a spirit animal companion, Y6 discovered their own and recorded it as a drawing. Using combined inspiration from the Maya and the style of modern artist Dan Fenelon, they developed their symbols to represent themselves, creating a drawn tile of line, pattern and colour.
L3 - Chiaroscuro
Y6 learned about the drawing and painting technique of chiaroscuro through diverse examples. They applied understanding of using light and dark to create form and impact to create Maya-inspired word art.
World Book Day 2023
This year we celebrated World Book Day at Christ Church on 3rd March.
The children came dressed as their favourite book characters... can you guess who these people are as they enter the school hall?
We began the day with our world famous "Reading Breakfast".
Parents and children gathered together in the hall to share food and, more importantly, stories. This was a very well-attended event, which all enjoyed thoroughly.
After lunch we had our Costume Competition.
Well done to all of those children (and parents...) who dreamed up this year's fantastic costumes.
At the end of the competition, a winner from each year group was awarded the prize of a new book.
Also, the winning staff member - the wonderful Mr. Holness - was awarded a special shopping voucher to buy himself some books.
Police visit to EYFS
On Wednesday 1st March, our EYFS children were happy to receive a visit from our local Police officers.
The children have been dressing up and acting as Police officers over the past few weeks and they have used this to help with their learning - especially in mark-making as they write down accident reports and make wanted posters.
They were all so excited to meet 3 serving Police officers for the morning.
Scholastic Book Fair 2023
During the week of 20th February, we hosted the Scholastic Book Fair once again. The children really enjoyed browsing the fantastic selection of books available and persuaded their parents to part with some money...
Thank you everyone who bought a book, or some stationery... this year we raised a fantastic total of £786.73
Our share of this total will help bring more books and reading to our school. Look below for photos of our children having a great time browsing...
Christmas Carol Service
14th December 2022
What a lovely carol service we had today at St. Anne's Church.
Many thanks to Mother Christine and Mother Natasha for hosting us and to all of the parents who came along to join in.
But mostly, thanks and well done to all of the children from Year 1 to Year 6 who sang and read beautifully. What a great way to celebrate Christmas.
EYFS - Christmas songs
December 2022
Today our EYFS children entertained their parents with Christmas songs and rhymes.
Pictures of their performance are below... and short videos can be seen by clicking here.
Christmas Lunch 2022
Today we had our annual Christmas lunch in the hall with the children. The photos below show just how excited they were and how much fun they had.
Thank you to Chef Diane and her team for providing us with such a lovely Christmas lunch!
Christmas Jumper Day 2022
What a wonderful sight to see our children and staff turn out in their Christmas jumpers today. It certainly brightens the school up and makes the place feel even more Christmassy...
Reception Poetry recital
Earlier in Autumn Term, our children from Reception Class learned and recited Nursery Rhymes to the school and to their parents.
This was a big step for the children as they needed to show great confidence in speaking in front of a crowd. The photos below show just how well our fantastic children coped.
Thank you to Miss Butler and Miss Ayub for helping the children to prepare for this and to the parents who came along to support them. (I'm sure you are as proud as we are here at school.)
International Day 2022
Thank you to all of our families and children who dressed in their traditional costumes for International Day 2022.
What a fantastic display of colour and style!
It was also lovely to see our families cooking and sharing food together after school - what a way to bring the community together, around the tables!
And with everyone donating £1.00 per plate... we raised over £200 for our environmental projects.
Thank you all for being so generous!
Farewell to the Year 6 class of 2021 - 2022
On Wednesday 20th and Thursday 21st July we bid farewell to the Year 6 class of 2021 - 2022. The pictures below are from our prize-giving ceremony on Wednesday evening.
This class has changed over the years, but many of them have been with us since Nursery oh so many years ago.
Well done to all of you for all of your achievements.
God bless you as you move on to Secondary schools. Make us proud of you! (Or more proud than we already are).
Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Celebration
On Friday 27th May, we celebrated Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee here at Christ Church School.
In the morning, our Key Stage 2 children went along to St. Anne's Church where we met Bishop Lusa, the newly appointed Bishop of Willesden, who joined us in a celebration of prayers and thoughts to mark the Queen's reign.
Bishop Lusa and his friends then joined us at school for lunch with the children before they carried on with their walking pilgrimage around Willesden.
In the afternoon, we opened up the school to our parents and held a tea party for the Queen. The children (and then some parents...) joined in by taking part in a vintage-based sports event hosted by the wonderful Mr. Holness.
Have a look at the photographs below - I'm sure you will agree, we had a wonderful celebration and everyone had a happy Jubilee day together.
R.E. Holy Week Art Work display
Just before we broke for Easter, our children took part in an R.E. themed day, where they learned about the events of Holy Week.
In each learning activity, the children responded in different ways to the stories which they heard - by writing newspaper reports, by making crosses, or by making links to their art-week themes.
All of the children agreed this was a very enjoyable and worthwhile day... and they were able to retell a lot of the Holy Week story from Palm Sunday until Jesus died on the cross.
Below, you can see the amazing results of their learning on the day.
Logo-Lift-Off Science Competition
Well done to Adam from Year 6 who independently entered the Logo Lift-Off competition with his logo below. This design won the South-East England Regional finals and will now be entered into the National finals.
The winning design from the National Finals will appear on an actual spaceship which will be launched into outer space.
Adam's logo shows a satellite holding the earth which is melting due to climate change.
Black History Month
"Our Black Heroes" Speeches
This month, the children across Key Stage 2 have been researching Black heroes. They have made some fantastic presentations and turned these into speeches.
On Thursday 21st October, the children who were voted as best speakers from each class presented their arguments as to why their subjects should be heroes to the whole school.
Well done to our public speakers! They presented clearly and gave good arguments for their Black History Month heroes!
Off to Space
Well done to this young chap for his creative home-learning. What a model for the next generation of space exploration. Look out NASA, the space race is on!
International Food Celebration
Following our Harvest Festival, we had an international food celebration at Christ Church school.
From the photos below, you can see all of our community enjoying time together and sharing food from around the world.
Thank you to all those families who contributed.
What a fantastic way to bring our community together out of lockdown.
Harvest Celebration at Christ Church
On Friday 8th October, our school went to Christ Church for the first time in almost 2 years.
We went along to celebrate the harvest and to live out our school vision by showing compassion for those members of our community who do not have enough food.
We sang, we prayed, we donated food and everyone agreed it was a fantastic first celebration together.
Have a look at our photos below.
Democracy in Action at Christ Church School
Today our children showed the British value of Democracy as we headed to the polls to vote for our new Head Girl & Head Boy.
On Monday we had the hustings speeches, where each of the candidates tried to persuade us to vote for them.
The successful candidates will lead this year's Pupil Parliament and will be chosen to represent the school in various duties throughout the year.
Year6 v Staff
Benchball & Rounders
To help round off the term, our staff challenged the Year 6 children to show off their sporting prowess in a game of rounders and a game of benchball.
As you can see, there was much fun to be had by all...
As for the scores... it was a draw - 1 game each.
...not to forget the wonderful spectators...
Year 6 fun at Sayers Croft 2021
This week our intrepid explorers from Year 6 are spending some time at Sayers Croft residential centre in Surrey.
Are they enjoying themselves and learning lots?
We will leave you to be the judges...
For videos of the children's exploits, head to our Video Resource Centre under the Children's tab.
Science Week(s)
Over the past 2 weeks, our children have been undertaking interesting Science projects with research, experiments and... just lots of fun learning.
Below, you can see examples of the learning they have been engaged in...
Back to school
It is so lovely to see all of our children back to school from March 8th after such a long time off due to the national lockdown.
It hasn't affected them one bit, it would seem as everyone has returned showing excellent learning behaviours!
Well done Christ Church - as always, you're making us proud!
