Daily Supported Reading
Daily Supported Reading is delivered in EYFS and KS1 for maximum impact across the school. It helps children make accelerated progress by working in a coherent and systematic way, providing daily opportunities for structured reading.
The children begin with wordless books to build their comprehension skills and reading behaviours, moving to word level books and books with statements and sentences. While reading, the children develop their word recognition and comprehension skills. Children enjoy daily independent reading in small groups matched to their independent reading level, led by a trained adult.
Adults use differentiated lesson guides and benchmarking assessments to move children on and make sound judgements about when to do so. This method has a proven track record of success in raising school reading standards at KS1.
