St. Laurence’s Larder
About St. Laurence's Larder
St Laurence’s Larder was opened in 2012 by Father Stephen France in response to hunger and homelessness caused by austerity. Using space in the church hall, he founded a community kitchen where volunteers would gather to cook and serve hot food to guests and provide a brief respite from a harsh and sometimes homeless life. With local support, some grants from Brent and great volunteers, The Larder grew to provide a three course lunch twice a week, hot showers, a clothes bank and most importantly of all, a warm welcome.
Ten years on, The Larder is going through a transitional period. Briefly forced to close by lockdown, The Larder re-opened in September 2020 to provide take-away food and food parcels. Father Stephen has now retired and there is a new manager, Sarah Akinwunmi, who has a background of community action and is passionate about helping people from challenging and disadvantaged backgrounds and empowering them to have a better quality of life.
Currently, The Larder is providing take-away, cooked meals, food parcels, showers and a clothes bank service on Thursdays and hopes to reopen the community kitchen by the end of the year to provide sit down hot lunches.
The Larder offers an equally warm welcome to both volunteers and clients. Currently they need volunteers: drivers, admin or food bank assistants and servers, Or if you could commit to a regular donation, it would be so appreciated. Find out more by using the social media handles below.
