Inclusion and SEND
At Christ Church, we believe that every child is unique and deserves to feel happy, safe and successful at school.
We are proud to be an inclusive school where children of all abilities learn, grow and thrive together. We work hard to ensure that every child receives the support they need to achieve their potential, develop confidence and enjoy school life.
Whether a child needs a little extra help for a short period or more specialised support over time, we work closely with families to ensure the right support is in place.
What is SEND?
SEND stands for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
A child may have SEND if they need additional support to help them learn, communicate, make progress or access school life in the same way as their peers.
Children may need support in areas such as:
- Speech, language and communication
- Social interaction and communication
- Learning and cognition
- Emotional wellbeing and mental health
- Physical or sensory needs
SEND at Christ Church
We are proud of our inclusive approach and our expertise in supporting children with a wide range of needs.
Currently, around 20 pupils in total have special educational needs and within these , 13 pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and 8 of these pupils access our specialist provision, St Joseph's.
Our SEND profile reflects our commitment to supporting children with a range of additional needs, including those with more complex requirements.

- Visual resources and structured routines
- Specialist advice from outside professionals
Teachers, support staff and the SENDCo work together to ensure support is carefully planned and regularly reviewed.

St Joseph's is our specialist provision for children with more complex needs.
The provision offers:
- Smaller teaching groups

Children accessing St Joseph's remain an important part of the wider Christ Church community and take part in school life wherever appropriate.
Working Together With Families
Parents and carers are their child's first and most important teachers.
We believe that children make the best progress when school and home work together.
We will:
- Listen to your views and concerns
- Keep you informed about your child's progress
- Involve you in decisions about support
- Meet regularly to review progress
- Work together to celebrate successes and address challenges
No concern is too small. We encourage parents to speak to us as early as possible if they have questions about their child's development or learning.
Support From Other Professionals
Sometimes children benefit from support from specialists outside school.
We work closely with services including:
- Speech and Language Therapy (SALT)
- Occupational Therapy (OT)

Working together helps us provide the best possible support for each child.
Emotional Wellbeing
A child who feels safe, valued and understood is better able to learn.
We place great importance on emotional wellbeing and nurturing positive relationships.
Support may include:
- Pastoral support
- Emotional regulation strategies
- Social skills support
- Nurture-based approaches
- Support from specialist services where needed
Extra-Curricular Activities and School Trips
We want all children to enjoy the full life of the school.
Children with SEND are encouraged and supported to take part in:
- School trips
- Clubs
- Sports activities
- Performances and events
- Leadership opportunities
We make reasonable adjustments wherever needed so that every child can participate.
