Here is your School Newsletter from Brent Libraries for the Summer of 2026. We have many exciting FREE events coming up for your children. Have a look below to see which events you would like to come to. Some events require booking all details are below.

National Year of Reading

In 2026, the National Year of Reading is reconnecting reading with the things that already inspire us – from playlists and football matches to films, food and family time. It’s reading that fits how we live, not the other way around. Look out for Brent Libraries wide range of events promoting and celebrating the joy of reading.

Brent Libraries will be running a Summer Fun Festival that will appeal to all children. There will be weekly themes including adventure, fantasy, STEM, sports and more. Join the SFF from 1 July, read 6 books for rewards and be a reading ambassador! For children aged 0-12.

Capoeira Family workshop

1.30 - 2.30pm

Come and enjoy an Afro -Brazilian martial arts and games workshop that includes elements of dance, acrobatics, music and spirituality. Capoeira gives children a joyful way to build confidence, coordination, and creativity—blending movement, music, and culture into an art that keeps both body and mind active. Delivered by Centro Cultural Senzala de Capoeira.

Join us for a fabulous storytelling performance with award-winning oral storyteller and rapper Alim Kamara and celebrate the close of the festival. Prizes for best book reviews. Family event.

Relaxed early opening for families at Wembley Library at Brent Civic Centre

Come and join us for a special Autism-Friendly morning at Wembley Library for children aged 3-15 years with their siblings, parents and carers. We're creating a welcoming and inclusive space for autistic children to enjoy the building along with other families who would benefit from a quieter environment. Our staff are trained to provide a supportive environment. Whether you want to read, relax, or explore, we're here to make your visit enjoyable. Join us for a hour tailored just for you!

You can take part in a craft activity, borrow books and explore the library. There are accessible toilets in the Civic Centre on the Ground and First Floors.

All visitors to this special early opening will receive a visual story in advance to provide an idea of what to expect during the event. Please add the email address museum.archives@brent.gov.uk to your contacts to avoid the visual story email going to your junk folder by accident.

If you already have a library card you can use the computers from 9am.

If you book to come for the early opening you can join the library from 9.30am and use the computers from then.

The Children’s Library and the main library displays are open to the general public from 10.30am.

Please note that you need to join Brent libraries if you are not already a member plus borrow a book when you arrive (or if you are not living in Brent you need to join the library plus download an audio book) before joining the event.
