Welcome to Christ Church (Brondesbury)
CofE Primary School Going for GOLD with faith

The children will have access to a wide range of books. They are also encouraged to take selected books home to share and enjoy with you. Please ensure that you provide a suitable book bag clearly labelled with your child’s name in order for them to carry books between home and school.

In Nursery children can change their books as often as they wish.

In Reception children will be given the opportunity to take a picture book of their choice home to be shared with you. They will also take home small reading books that your child should attempt to read themselves. This will begin when the teacher feels that they are ready. The teacher will discuss this with you further.

- Approach to Early Reading and Writing -

In the Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stage One, the teaching of early reading and writing skills is supported by the Letters and Sounds programme. This is a systematic approach to teaching through which individual letter sounds or groups of sounds are blended to create complete words.

As the children work through the phases, they learn to read and write words and sentences using their knowledge of letter sounds and have opportunities to apply these skills throughout the curriculum.
