Safer School Streets
Dear Parents,
Your school is one of thirty participating in the School Streets programme. The schemes aim to help the school community with social distancing as more pupils return to school by restricting vehicles outside a school at pick up and drop off. This also should help to make the route safer for pupils, promote walking and cycling, and cut the number of cars contributing to local air pollution.
The five key objectives of the Emergency School Streets programme are:
- Providing space for social distancing
- Improving air quality
- Encouraging active journeys to schools
- Reducing vehicle use Improving road safety outside of the school
In normal circumstances we would not implement a traffic scheme like this without comprehensive engagement with the local community first. However, because of the urgency required in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, and stipulations on TfL funding, these School Street Zones have been introduced as a temporary arrangement, using an experimental traffic order. The schemes will be subject to a six-month review to establish whether it will be made permanent, amended, or removed.
As a parent/guardian of one of the participating schools, Brent Council wish to find out more about your experience of the School Street and gather your views to feed into the six-month review. We would be grateful if you could complete this questionnaire to share your views on your experience so far.
